Urine Not Going to Believe This

Toilet

Is it because I have a boy? Because he's five? Because I have a husband? Because my daughter sits on an elevated toilet seat so her teeny tiny butt doesn't slide through the hole into the deep abyss of toilet water? Why? Why? Why does my bathroom smell like pee no matter how many times I clean it? Why did I find a puddle of pee under the trashcan, take a moment to think about that—UNDER THE TRASHCAN—when I mopped the floor yesterday? The trashcan is about two feet from the toilet and there was no pee in the trashcan or around the trashcan so how, in the name of all that is not pee in the world, did pee get UNDER the trashcan? That is today's mystery. Thoughts?

Oh, and I apologize for the title of this blog. It's awful and not at all funny but I couldn't help myself.

  1. Ahhhh the joys of boys! I have been there before. One thing I can tell you for sure not to do is spray your floors and toilets with bleach and leave it because your toilet seat will have white polka dots :) If you floor slightly slopes then the pee might migrate to the trashcan or if your son is anything like my middle one ( and we know he is) he probably waited until he was about to explode before he went to the bathroom and at that point they have no control over those things :)

  2. Oh and you might try wiping down the walls and baseboards if you haven't already. I could not get the smell gone for awhile and I did that and it was gone.

  3. If there is a pee smell soaked into the walls, get some stuff (I forget what it is called) from the pet store that is for getting rid of the smell of cat and dog urine. It works fairly well.
And you are smelling it more because you are pregnant.

  4. Yikes. I wish I had some helpful tips for you, but alas, I'm at a loss. Good luck with this (p)issue. Ok, now THAT was bad. :P

  5. ever think about painting a Bull's eye target in the bottom of the toilet? It probably won't help the odor issues, but Truman's fun level will increase.

  6. Ugh... We are doing potty training for Baby Girl. She actually sits so it shoots OVER the little potty. She's done this TWICE now. On hardwood (or fake hardwood) floors. I've put the little shield that it comes with on it. the one that's supposed to be for boys.
    ~sigh~

  9. your new background for your blog is cool...very retro late 70s - early 80s. instead of leaves on it, it should have a rollerskate or a Farrah Fawcett picture.

  11. I'm with Libby. If rubbing alcohol doesn't rub it out, nothing will. Although, tomato juice is also used on skunks...

  12. A new fall look, I like it.
Yeah, boys and pee. When we moved into this house, ONE of the three kid's bedrooms had an ensuite bathroom. The boy got it.
The girl's didn't even complain. This is the reason.

  13. Check your baseboards. Men and boys are both capable of bad aiming. If urine gets under the baseboards, it can linger for days.
Do you have pets? Mine are known to pee along corners of walls or anything standing still.:)
